Simply Snackin'

If you know me at all, you'll know that the two things I love THE most are snacks and freebies. Okay, well, not as much as Jeff or Sallie or life in general.

But I really do love snacks and anything that's free.

So, naturally, when Simply Snackin approached me to sample their jerky, I practically jumped at the chance. Now, I do try to avoid eating meat as much as possible, but dangle FREE in front of me, and I'm a total sucker.

I was surprised to open my mailbox one afternoon and find a delightful surprise.

(photos take from their website)

I was sent two of each flavor, so I even shared with Jeff. What a nice wife I am!!

I was skeptical at first as I read the flavors:
Beef Sirloin with Cranberries and Blueberries
Beef Sirloin with Apples and Cherries
Teriyaki Beef Sirloin with Pineapples
Chicken Breast with Italian Seasonings and Romano Cheese
Chicken Breast with Black Bean Salsa
Teriyaki Chicken Breast with Mangoes and Papayas
So much fruit mixed with the dried meat. Wasn't that going to make it taste weird? I especially didn't think that Jeff would like these. He dislikes any meat with fruit. Pork chops and apple sauce? No way. Ham and pineapple? Ew. Yeah, he pretty much turns his nose up at any mention of fruit with meat.

I warned him that he might not like these.

I was wrong. He actually liked them a lot! I think he's forgotten about the two he still has left on the counter, but he did enjoy the four he did eat. If he doesn't eat his remaining two soon, they might just disappear. In my belly.

I, of course, took no time at all in eating all six of mine. Best I could do was refrain from eating more than one a day.

Mid-morning snack at work

The added fruit was very subtle. I don't think I really even noticed it at all. I'm not sure if this is a benefit of the fruit or not, but I didn't think this was overly tough. It was the perfect kind of chewy.

I enjoyed all the flavors, but I think the Chicken with Black Bean Salsa was my favorite. It definitely had a bit of a kick to it!

I also loved that these came in convenient, individual servings - perfect for busy on-the-go folks. Most dried meats come in larger bags that are too easy to over-indulge in. I liked that these forced me to have some self-control. Each snack is only 60 calories - making it a perfect low-calorie, high protein snack.

While I mostly just ate mine at work, I think they would be perfect for a post-workout treat, too. Protein is good for recovery, you know. ;)

Another thing to know about Simply Snackin is that it is a small family-owned company in Oshkosh, WI. I like that. A lot. Also, unlike other convenient meat snacks, these are not made with a bunch of fillers, chemicals or low-quality ingredients. Even better.

I would definitely recommend these to anyone (well, except vegans, obviously) looking for a great-tasting, convenient, high protein, low calorie snack.

Would you like to try them out?

  1. Oh I love jerky. It's so amazing, but can be so expensive!

    1. I agree. I rarely ever buy it because it seems so much for the amount you get. This isn't too bad. If you buy the smallest quantity (12), it comes to about $1.44/snack or $1.30 with the 10% coupon.

  2. I always buy the large bulk pack and split it with my mom. Lasts me a few months. I wish I had seen the coupon code before I placed my order. I'm half tempted to double up and use the code before the end of the month.
