Conversations with Non-Fitness Enthusiasts

This is my first time linking up for #TheFitDish with Jill Conyers and Jessica Joy.

I couldn't resist this week's topic.

Conversations with Non-Fitness Enthusiasts #TheFitDish

We've all had them right?! Conversations when you mention an upcoming race, or a fitness accomplishment you've achieved, and you're met with a blank stare or a ridiculous response.

3 examples:
Me: I think I'm going to start biking into work again.
Co-Worker: Does that mean you won't have to...I mean...get to...I mean...will you not run as much?
Me, laughing: No, it just means I'll do both!
Me: I'm running a 5k this weekend!
Co-Worker: Are you going to win?
Me: Um. No. Probably won't even get a PR. :(
Co-Worker: How was your marathon last weekend?
Me: Marathon? Oh, you mean the 5k. It was really awesome! I ran my fastest one ever.
Co-Worker: Like 20 minutes?
Me: Uh. Not anywhere near that fast. Thanks for making me feel bad about my PR. lol.
These are 3 real life conversations that I had in the past few weeks with 3 separate co-workers.

After each of them, I could only shake my head and laugh.

They just don't it get.

And normally, I really don't mind. Normally, I just laugh it off.

But every once in a while, it's annoying. Every once in awhile, I wish everyone would just know what it means to run a marathon or get a Personal Record.

And share in my triumphs!

I did recently inspire a co-worker to start running again, so I guess all my blabbering about running has paid off. That's the best thing that can happen! When a conversation (or several) helps someone else jump on the running/fitness bandwagon. Now, that makes a girl feel real good. :)

What's the most ridiculous conversation you've had about fitness or running with a non-fitness enthusiast?
Has your enthusiasm inspired someone to join the fun?

Race Day - Chatty Cathy

Tomorrow is another race day! 2014 is really turning out to be the year of the races for me, and I'm having a blast!

Tomorrow is ...

I'll be starting my Saturday morning bright and early with a half marathon and then finishing the evening with a 5k for the DIRTY DOUBLE.

As with any race, particularly a trail race, my #1 goal is always to just get out there and have fun. ENJOY THE COURSE. :) This definitely won't be a PR course, but it will definitely be a beautiful course.

Part of the fun of running a race is interacting with other runners out on the course.

I'm kind of a solo runner during training, so I can be a little chatty during a race - especially a longer race like a half marathon.

3 Things Thursday - 8/29

The winners of the Factors of 36 virtual race were announced late last night. You can check it out here.

Here are 3 Things on my mind today.

1. I've been immersed in a HUGE project at work for the past several months. Without going into a lot of details, we're basically converting to a new system that affects the entire way we do business from editorial (I work at a newspaper) to advertising to the business office and basically everything in between. It's been a major undertaking, to say the least. It's involved many a late night and even a couple weekends. All our effort is about to come to fruition. It's GO LIVE WEEKEND!! It sucks that it's also a holiday weekend, and I may end up having to come in on Saturday, but it feels real good that Go Live is finally here. Whoohoo!!

2. Here's a conversation from the other day.
Me: Do you think my face looks fat?
Jeff: Do you want an honest answer?
Me: Yeah. Um. Well, I think so.
Jeff: No, your face isn't looking fat, but the rest of your body is starting to look a little big for your face. Mostly your tummy.
Guys...

I know you all dread questions like this, but please PLEASE keep your answers only to the question asked. :)

So, the next morning, I hopped on the scale. I've gained 7 lbs since the beginning of the year. Wish I could say that was all muscle. LOL. I really, really need to start doing more ab work - and strength training in general.

3. Remember that stairs workout I did on Tuesday? Well, I woke up yesterday morning with some serious DOMS in my calves. Almost as bad as when I did 50 calf raises. In a row. Back in April.

How's your Thursday going?
Any big plans for the holiday weekend?

Random Conversations with my Husband that You Don't Care About

Two random conversations from last night.

Him: Why are you still biking to work?
Me: Because it's healthier and saves gas money.
Him: But it's dark outside.
Me: Only at night.
Him: But you do bike home at night.

(yes, I did bike in today.)

Me: How many times a day do you pee?
Him: I don't know. Probably twice.
Me: Damn. Sometimes I have to pee twice an hour.
Me: You need to drink more water.

(maybe I need to drink less water...)

What randomly odd conversations have you had lately?
