Week 3 of training wasn't much better than week 2. Unfortunately. :-( My toe was still hurting, plus my road trip was still happening. Since my toe was hurting, I didn't even pack running clothes for my trip. It turned out OK because I didn't really have time to run. Plus, it was quite chilly in central WA. I did manage to get in 10k steps each day, though many of those steps were upper body only. I did manage 2 runs this week, so I think I'll be able to get back on the training track for Week 4.

Run Laughlin Half Marathon Training Week 2
After last Sunday's fall, week 2 of training was pretty much a flop! My right big toe was all bruised and I am still limping a bit. I'm hopeful that I'll be back to training soon, though. I'm almost back to walking pretty normally, so I'll likely try running again once I get back home after our road trip.

It's gonna be TOUGH!
This morning Jeff and I woke up early, threw on our new tri-suits, and headed out to Lake Mead.
Oh, have I mentioned that we've decided on our 1st triathlon? Well, we haven't registered or anything, but we're pretty set on doing the Pumpkinman Sprint at Lake Mead.
We've been swimming for all of our Half Marathon training cross training days, but decided we should get some practice out in the lake. Since we live close enough to Lake Mead, and that's where the triathlon will be, we decided today was the perfect day to get to it.
IT WAS AWFUL.
I have never liked swimming. I'm the girl who in junior high used every excuse possible to get out of swim days for PE.
I've always said I'd do a triathlon - if it weren't for the whole swimming thing.
Well, today, all that came crashing into me with every. single. wave.
We ended up swimming, we think, about 250m. About 1/3 of the distance of the sprint tri. I barely made it. We swam out to one buoy. Took a break. Swam out to another buoy. Took a long break. I'm talking about FOUR minutes. Swam back to the first buoy, and then swam back to the entry point.
It was super windy out there, and the waves were crazy (for me). Thankfully, we were with the current on the way back, which I think cut our time in like half. Or so it seemed to me.
Getting to the first buoy was the HARDEST. I didn't think I could do it. BUT I DID!
Now, I know I need a LOT more training in. the. lake. But I've got almost 3 months to get a little more comfortable.
Have you ever run a triathlon?

5k MY Way
I'm super excited to announce this! I've teamed up with a few other bloggers, and we're introducing a fun challenge/program for all of you who are thinking about running your first 5k.
This brilliant idea came to Annica Nicole on a recent run. Why not create a program that offers more than advice and training tips, but includes the social interaction of others just like you?
Introducing 5k MY Way
If you've been following me for awhile, you know that I love to run, but I'm no running expert, and while running is my favorite form of exercise, there are times when I don't run for weeks.
This program will be great, because I know I'm going to learn so much from all the participants as well as the other coaches!
If you're considering training for your first 5K, NOW is the time.
The challenge will begin on Monday, 8/5, and you'll be set to run a 5K sometime in Oct. The training plan will be flexible, and you can run whenever wherever you'd like. The 5K is up to you as well. Sign up for something local, totally rock it (I know you will), and then come back and brag.
Come back? Oh, did I forget to mention that you'll be a part of a private Facebook group just for the participants and the coaches. A nice safe place to ask questions, get training tips, and feel the support from others just like you. Plus we've got our own hashtag - #5kMYWay
Spread the word now and share your experiences throughout the challenge.
We're also going to have some mini challenges - not necessarily all specifically running related. So, this is going to be so. much. fun!
Have I piqued your interest? Are you ready for your first 5K? You can get even more details here or you click the link below to sign up.
If you've already had the experience of running a 5k, please share this challenge with anyone you know who might be interested.
I can't wait for Monday!!
If you've run a 5k, what do you remember about your first race?
If you've never run a 5k, what's holding you back?

Eye to Eye
It's inexplicable. Irrational.
But I really, really dislike talking on the phone.
I avoid it at all costs. I'm a HUGE call screener. If you're not in my contacts, I won't answer. If you are, I'll wonder why you're calling and may or may not answer. Probably 8 out of 10 calls, I let go to voicemail. Yes, even family and close friends.
My husband and I have even been known to argue over who has to call to order delivery. I usually lose, which does not make me happy. At least the food mostly makes up for it.
If you were to ask me the following question:
Unless it's a fake in the eye. Skype? Video chat? Uh. No, thank you.
All that being said, I LOVE MY PHONE! I love communicating via email, texting, blogging, social media. Sharing photos and stories from the palm of my hand.
Call me quirky. I guess it's why I enjoy being a blogger! I get to share my thoughtsand hope someone reads them and interact with other lovely bloggers. Sometimes I even get to meet some in person. Yay!

Fitness Cheerleader asks us today to describe a typical weekly training schedule.
I'm just getting back into things, so I don't really have a training schedule per se. I plan on running every other day between 3-7 miles with a long run on either Sat or Sun of 10-12 miles. I've started doing a wee bit of yoga after my runs. On my non-running days, I'll either rest or so some kind of core / strength training. I have a lot of difficulty motivating myself for those workouts, though. *shrug*
Which do you prefer - talking eye to eye or over the phone?
What's a typical training week look like for you?
