Today, I'm linking up with Kim, Janelle, and Steph for Tunes Tuesday. The theme this month is Throwback Jams (70s, 80s, 90s). Perfect for a trip down memory lane to my high school and college days.
Remember making mixed tapes for your friends? Finding the perfect songs and combining them into a fun mix? I had a few friends that were so good at making them! Me? Not so much. I always had so much trouble choosing the songs. And getting them to flow and fit onto a cassette? Not so much. LOL

Women of the 80s: A Totally Awesome Playlist
Last Thursday was International Women's Day, and I was pleasantly surprised at how many posts I saw come across my social channels celebrating the day. It seemed a much bigger deal this year, or maybe I was just paying more attention.
Women, of course, should be celebrated every day, but at least we have this one day set aside internationally as well as March also being National Women's History Month here in the U.S. (maybe other places as well).
One of my favorite genres to listen to while I run is 1980s pop, so I thought it would be fun to celebrate National Women's History Month with a playlist of the awesome female artists of the 1980s.

Favorite Songs of 2017 (so far)
It's my first time linking up for Tunes Tuesday with Kim, Steff, and Janelle for real (I linked up once before with just an IG pic).
I've been listening to music a bit more on my runs, but the music on my phone has gotten a bit stale.
I needed to mix it up.
So, I finally redeemed my coupon code for a free year of Spotify Premium to see if I like using it on my runs. I was going to test out the free version before redeeming, but Premium allows you to download to your phone, and I try to use the least amount of data during my runs as possible, so Premium it is. :)
On the 4th Tuesday of each month, the Tunes Tuesday topic is Current Favorite Music. I'm loving so many new songs this year! I think artists are really bringing their A game right now, and it makes my commute so much more enjoyable.
Here is a playlist of my Top 10 Songs of 2017 (so far). Enjoy!
They may or may not be good for running. ;-) I'm testing it out for the first time this morning!
What do you think? Will this be a good playlist for running?
Stay tuned to Twitter and IG to see what I thought.

Koss FitSeries - The Perfect Gift for Active Women
This post is sponsored by FitFluential LLC on behalf of Koss.
Less than 10 days until Christmas. Is your shopping done? No?
Are you still looking for that perfect gift foryourself the active woman in your life? I recently had the opportunity to try out the new Koss FitSeries headphones as a FitFluential ambassador. They come in two styles - FitBuds and FitClips.
Personally, I preferred the FitClips. They fit easily around my ear, and I barely noticed them during my 5-mile run. I meant to try them out during my marathon, but ended up not listening to any music with headphones.
Unfortunately, I had some difficulty with the FitBuds. The left one always seemed to pop-out. Could have been user error.
I'm not really much of a headphone aficionado. I usually just use whatever comes with my phone. :-) That said, I really thought the sound quality was good. I didn't have to turn the volume up nearly as high as with my other ear buds. Score!
Both styles of headphones come with 3 different sizes of cushioning, so you can customize the fit to your ear.
They're designed by women, specifically for women.
The FitBuds are 33% smaller than other Koss earbuds.
They're sweat resistant and come in a variety of colors.
But the best part is that they are totally affordable! Normally $29.99, they're on sale at several retailers like Walmart, Best Buy, Walgreens, Kmart and Sears for $19.99. Or less!!
Sounds like a pretty great deal to me!

See the difference in sizes of the two headphones without the cushioning? I think is this partially why I liked the FitClips better. So much smaller. :) |

An Incredible Start to a Fabulous week
Having my parents come out for a visit was fabulous! It was great to see them and visit. It had been such a long time. It was also super fun to be tourists for a few days. :)
We did pretty much everything I mentioned in this post. Well, except we checked out Valley of Fire State Park instead of Red Rock National Park. Thank you, government shutdown.
Valley of Fire was absolutely amazing, so I'm really happy we decided to check it out. More to come on that in another post.
Their flight was delayed in leaving MSP, but I was still super excited all day.
You see, we were starting their visit off with a Bon Jovi concert.
I could hardly wait! I felt like a giddy teenager all afternoon.
The concert was loud. It was crazy.
It was AMAZING!
We missed the first half of the show because of their delayed flight, but the ending is always better anyway, right?
They were playing some of their newer ballads when we got there. They were good.
But I loved hearing the older songs better.
To be honest, we're not real big concert goers, but we really enjoyed this show. The lights were amazing. The crowds were fun (when they weren't being annoying, of course).
Considering Jon (cuz I'm on a first name basis like that) is in his 50s, I thought he could still move like no other. I'm not going to lie. He was really fun to watch.
The first finish of the night was Bad Medicine.
I would have been totally satisfied with this ending. It was such a fun song performed with so much energy.
Of course, it was only 10:30, so I knew there'd be an encore. After a couple minutes break, he was back on for 3 more songs. And closed out the show with Living on a Prayer.
His performance + the crowd participation = Incredible!
I may or may not have sung along. :)
Have I mentioned what an amazing experience this was? I seriously had the greatest time!!
After the show, we stopped at Firefly for some late night tapas. It was delicious and a perfect start to our Vegas dining experiences. :) Unfortunately, I failed as a blogger at this first dinner and didn't take a single snapshot. Boooo.
The small tapas plates are perfect for ordering a variety of things to share, and the ambiance is really great. Oh, and we had a celebrity spotting! Carrot Top was just a couple tables away with a huge group of people. LOL.
All in all, Bon Jovi and Firefly were the perfect start to a great week!
Sunday was a pretty lazy day. Partly to recover from the late night. Also, we'd planned on going to see Hoover Dam, but there aren't any tours on Sundays, so we decided to take it easy, hit up Walmart, soak in the hot tub, and visit Hoover Dam on Monday.
I'll blog about that and our other adventures in future posts, so stay tuned.
Are you a concert-goer? What's been your favorite band/singer to see in concert?

Cee Lo Green is LOBERACE
Ooh! It was one crazy weekend. Jeff and I definitely bit off more than we could chew. It was super fun, but it totally wiped us out. :)
Brief recap:
Saturday night, we went to see CeeLo Green at Planet Hollywood.
Sunday afternoon, we went to NASCAR.
In between the two of them was, of course, the beginning of Daylight Savings Time, so we missed an hour of sleep on top of it.
I'll recap going to NASCAR tomorrow, but first, let's talk about CeeLo.
This show was really fantastic! I wasn't really sure what to expect, but it was such a fun, enjoyable show.
Jeff and I decided to bike to Planet Hollywood, so we left really early. We weren't 100% sure of where to lock our bikes and from there where to pick up the tickets. After locking our bikes, we had nearly 2 hours until showtime, so we took our time finding the box office and picking up our tickets. We were told that the doors would open 10 minutes prior to the show.
So, we killed some time walking around the Miracle Mile Shops.
As we were waiting for the doors to open, I couldn't help but notice the diversity of the audience! Both men and women, old and young, various ethnic backgrounds. It was nice to see. :)
Unfortunately, the doors did not open 10 min prior to the show. In fact, I don't think they opened until after the show was supposed to start, and then it took at least another 20 minutes to get everyone seated. To say that the audience, ourselves included, were annoyed at the delay would have been quite an understatement. It was already a pretty late show, starting at midnight, and people were definitely getting restless.
All that vanished once the show started and the dancers came out on to the stage. I am always so impressed with dancers. It is so amazing what they can do - the amount of body strength that must be required. I find it truly awe inspiring.
I probably would have been happy just watching the dancers, but the music was also very enjoyable! Even if you aren't familiar with CeeLo Green, I think you'd really enjoy this show. Most of the songs were tributes to some great music. I even caught Jeff singing along on several occasions. :)
Speaking of tributes, during one of the CeeLo's costume changes, out came Boy George, who sang a few of his best known songs. Ok, so it was actually an impersonator, but damn! he was spot on. We weren't the only ones fooled. :)
The music was fantastic; the dancers were fascinating.
As is true with many Vegas shows, I assume. I haven't actually been to more than a couple. the female dancers were very sensual - from their dress to their moves. If this bothers you, then I probably wouldn't recommend the show. If you're an appreciator of the female form, then you will definitely enjoy this.
I was also impressed with the variety of the dancers. They weren't all stick thin. There were varying shapes and sizes and ethnicities. There were a couple girls that I thought were a bit too skinny because I could really see their ribs, but for the most part, these girls looked super fit. Simple as that. And did I mention how amazingly talented they were? :-)
I'm not sure what time the show actually ended up starting, but it easily lasted more than a full hour. Time went by so fast! A true sign of a great show, in my opinion.
By the time we returned to our bikes, the clocks on our phones had already sprung ahead for Daylight Savings Time - jipping us out of an hour of sleep. Ooh, NASCAR was a bitch to wake up for just a few short hours later. Stay tuned for a recap on that tomorrow.

5 by the 5th Virtual Race Series
The 5 by the 5th Virtual Race Series began this month, and I finally got out for a run this morning. The last possible day for January.
With this race series, you have the option of running either a 5K or 5 miles. Since one of my 2013 goals is to conquer a sub-25:00 5K, I chose to run a 5K. I figured it would be great for accountability each month and a nice way to hopefully measure some progress.
Unfortunately, I did several things wrong for this run.

10 kind of obscure SONGS I LOVE
Another Monday is here. Time for Monday Listicles. Stephanie suggested one of the topics today: 10 SONGS YOU LOVE, HATE OR LOVE TO HATE. The other topic was suggested by Rachée and Mrs RKFJ who called for 10 HOLIDAY SONGS.
I thought it would be fun to share a few songs that I love that are kind of obscure. Or maybe I'm just not cool enough to know that these songs were/are popular...?
But I want to include two other songs that I love that are far, far from being obscure, but I LOVE THEM. I love the music, but more I love the lyrics and the messages. To me, these songs are so POWERFUL and I love that we have songs like this out there today that can be empowering and fun.
HAPPY MONDAY, EVERYONE!

World Wide Rebel Song
Remember the other day when I mentioned free music from Google?
I thought I'd share one of the songs I downloaded recently.
While I've heard of Rage Against the Machine, I can't say I'm really familiar with their music. Am I missing out on something I shouldn't be? The intro to this song really made me smile, and the message is inspiring.
World Wide Rebel Songs by Tom Morello: The Nightwatchman
You should at least take a little listen to the intro. Why not download the free track as well? From the comments, this isn't really like the sound of RATM, so don't go into expecting that. :-)
******
In other news, my husband started a blog that he'll be using to post some of his short stories. He shared it on Google+ as public, but not on Facebook. Weird. Since he shared it somewhere publicly, I figure I'm good in promoting it, right?
He just has one story up so far. I read it this morning after my 10-mile run. It was really good.
If you've got a few minutes, It's longer than a typical blog post, but I think you'll find it a quick, engaging read. why not head over and give it a read. I'd love to hear what you think. I'm sure he would, too. If you enjoy it, feel free to share it on FB, Twitter, or G+

Uff Teri Adaa I like You
Day 12
I first heard this song during an episdoe of Outsourced totally funny sitcom, if you haven't seen it. So sad it got cancelled. It is such a happy song. Makes me want to twirl and sing and dance.
Enjoy!
Apparently, the video can't be embedded, so go here to listen and watch and dance and sing.

The Weepies
I first heard The Weepies while watching the movie Because I Say So. Their song World Spins Madly On was featured not only in the movie, but there is also a music video in the special features.
Jeff and I fell in love with their sound!
You can listen to a lot of their songs on their website... www.theweepies.com. One of my favorites is Nobody Knows Me At All. Their sound is very unique, and there is a lot of variety to their songs. Some are sad, some are happy, all are full of energy!
Check them out!!
